Mochitsuki

For the first time since 2019, SFVHBT members will gather for MOCHITSUKI to prepare delicious
mochi during one of our temple’s biggest traditional fundraisers.

Hard work mixes with loads of fun as our sangha pitches in while enjoying one another’s company. The
event arrives right at the peak of the December holiday season, when community members look forward
to purchasing our handmade mochi for their celebratory feasts.

All proceeds support our temple’s operating budget, allowing us to hear and practice the dharma.
Below is a schedule of the many tasks we need to complete in order to ensure a successful event. Keep in
mind that many hands make light work. We appreciate all the help we can get!

DEC. 10 (SATURDAY)

8AM – WASH RICE (waterproof footwear and long rubber gloves advised), cut and form an balls, cover
steaming frames with muslin, clean and prepare equipment

DEC. 11 (SUNDAY)

5AM – SET UP EQUIPMENT
6AM – STEAM RICE, ARRANGE AND COVER TABLES
7AM – MOCHI PRODUCTION begins: COOL, WEIGH, PACKAGE, LABEL, SORT ORDERS
11AM – 1PM – CUSTOMER ORDER PICK-UP AND SALES, CLEANUP
